BIG WORDS

When Dad takes us shopping
to buy new shoes
and all of us shout,
"This one I choose!'

and the salesman looks angry
he's pretty
IRATE
Dad wants us to behave and cooperate!
(Big Words for Little People by Jamie Lee Curtis)

We came home this afternoon and while I made dinner Cole was playing in the living room. He was searching for his Mickey Mouse airplane and could not find it anywhere. He says to me, "Ooohhh, Mom, I can't find Mickey. I'm pretty irate."  I burst into laughter.  Reading books really does rub off on children! Nice vocab Cole!

My favorite kind of Saturday

This photo amazingly was not staged!  Cole sat down and Charlotte actually wanted to sit on Cole's lap.  Too cute.

We decided Cole was old enough (and ready) to have a bicycle. He already has the hang of it really well and has been zooming up and down the driveway like a madman (literally).  When I say he has the hang of it- I mean he goes very well but stopping is still a challenge. Yikes!

I just thought this photo of Charlotte asleep in her carseat was too, too cute.

This is by far one of my favorites of Charlotte. Such good colors. Don't you just love her Kentucky Derby hat?  Lands End, folks.  Such good stuff.

And we had a picnic again this year for lunch right in our front yard!  Many more to come.....

Then Grammy and Paw-Paw visited and were kind enough to buy ice cream for Cole. We always hear the truck in our neighborhood but it rarely comes down our street. I guess they will more often now knowing there is a little boy who lives here!

Love this family photo.

Charlotte got some push-up sorbet.  She has a funny face on but she loved it!

Yes, spiderman ice cream.

We had a very full day and were outside for about 75% of it, but when we came in at 7pm and Cole wound down by watching Dumbo, Charlotte would have none of it! She went for her coat (even though it was still 80- she is so used to needing her coat for outside!) and stood by the door and said "out" and "open".  I took her for a walk around the neighborhood and all the while, she sang me a little song.  I love being a Mom.

My heart did break a little bit today though when Cole told me "You hurt my feelings".  You see, I thought he was done with the spiderman ice cream and had thrown it away- but he evidently wasn't because he was very upset later on when he asked for the rest and then told me that and that I had made him sad.  Oooo, ouch, my heart.

Overall though it was a great day and tomorrow promises to be just as wonderful!!

My Favorite Kind of Friday Nights

Ah yes, my favorite kind of Friday night is:

- Leave work early.
-Have a low key dinner out on the porch!
-Play until it gets dark
-Snuggle with my children!

All except the first part happened this past Friday. I actually got out really late but luckily was still home in time to have dinner out on the porch for the first time since last summer!! Love it!!  The previous owners had built this fantastic picnic table and it is so wonderful for easy, peasy dinners.

Charlotte is such a good eater and is willing to try anything. Here she is asking for more pizza! She ate two whole pieces that night! I'm pretty sure this girl is on a growth spurt because all she is doing is eating lately! I love the photo of Charlotte eating her pizza because her hazel eyes just pop. Such a pretty girl.  To me, I can't believe how much more she is looking like a toddler and less like a baby.  Sniff, sniff!   When we all went out to play after dinner, Charlotte really wanted to ride on Brendan's bike. I think she already wants to grow up! She does settle for the tricycle or the Big Wheel though! The last photo of Cole was actually taken on Wednesday night when he came down with conjunctivitis (yuck) but he was a happy camper and was kind enough to smile for the camera after I spiked his hair after a hair wash. He just looks so cool even with gunky eyes! Cole was really funny with the eye drops for this though- he and I made a chart with pictures of little bugs. And we would cross off the bugs every time I administered the eye drops so he could see how many more times we had to do it.  He was really proud when we reached the last one!

Blahhhhhh

You can either laugh or sympathize with me on this one...

I had someone ask me today if I was pregnant! What??!!  No, I certainly am not, thank you very much.

This person (grrrrr)  told me I had a glow about me and he thought I was pregnant.  I laughed it off and told him that it must be the new face scrub I was using. Then I thanked him for the compliment.  Ha-ha.

This was especially upsetting because I walked out the door today wearing a new dress and feeling very slim and beautiful, to say the least!

My day did not go up much from that incident.  Just one of those days that would be nice to forget.

Thank goodness I can start fresh again in about 8 hours. : )

4.19.2009

What an absolutely beautiful day!!! And yes, this kind of day deserves multiple exclamation points. Ha-ha.   I know it's the end of the April when the forcyn, forcin-ok, can't spell them-- those beautiful yellow flowering bushes are in bloom. I absolutely love them and the previous owners were so kind as to plant a large row of them on the right side of our property.  I've watched them carefully and the past day they have just popped with color.  So pretty.

Every once in awhile I am able to catch a perfect smile from Cole (and not the for-show kind of smile)!
This was Charlotte's happy face just seconds after coming off of the slide. She absolutely loves the slide- on our set or the park or whatever. The best way to describe it is just absolute glee.

And we opened the sandbox! Already I think it is getting more use than last summer.

The set has a "store front" so Cole served us ice cream and grilled cheese (his favorites of course) and I paid him with a kiss. : )

Who's next?

We went to the nursery to check out bark mulch prices and Cole choose a pansy for the flower box in front of the swing set. He was so proud of it and kept asking me what kind of flower it was.

And we had to water it of course!  He told me that he would water it every day (his own words), but we'll see how long that lasts. : )

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

King of (our own) Playground

I am so excited!! I have been wanting a swing set for Cole and Charlotte ever since we moved into this house. Actually one of my reasons I wanted this house we are in over another one was because of its yard and suitability for a swing set!!  Well, here is what our swing set looked like at 7:44am this morning in our garage.
Here is what the area looked like at 7:45am before the work began.

Here is Cole helping to bring over the wood at 9:42am.

Here are Steve-o, Jay, and Brendan figuring out the plans at 10:14am.

Pieces are up! So exciting!
(12 noon)

It's beginning to take shape at 2:00pm!

Look at that!! Work continues at 3:44pm...

Cole takes a break from playing to checkout his new fort area of the set.

Woo-hoo!  Look at what is up! (6:19pm)

And here it is at 6:51pm!!  Cole and Charlotte got to try out their new swings!!  I didn't get a picture of it completed because Jay, Paw-paw, and Brendan got the slide up after it turned dark.  It took over 11 hours to complete this and we couldn't have done this by ourselves.  I am so thankful for everyone that helped out today. Thank you Thank you!!! Cole and Charlotte will have years of fun on this!!

A "Real" Haircut

Mr Cole got a much needed hair cut today. Afterall, he can only survive for so long at the Mommy salon. (That would be me and a pair of clippers.)  He came back home today with a big boy (as Rob called it) haircut instead of the buzz I've been giving him. When I got home the first thing he said to me was, "Mommy do you like my haircut??"  Why yes, I do, Cole. Such a handsome little boy.

Say It With Me Now...

POOR CHARLOTTE!!

I left work early yesterday because Charlotte had a fever and was just not a happy camper at daycare.  I thought Brendan could stay home with her today but when my baby girl was crying, crying, crying this morning and would only be comforted by me, there was no way I was leaving her.  Charlotte just completed a 10 day cycle of Amoxicyllan last Friday. Wouldn't you know it though, when I took her to the doctor this morning for what I thought was conjunctivitis I found out that she (still)  has her double ear infection which explains her miserable state.

Although it was a sick day for my girl and all she wanted to do was snuggle or go outside (not to play but just to be held and walk around), it was a wonderful day to be able to be with her.
That's how I feel about being sick, too, Charlotte.

Charlotte always wants to go "out" even when she is sick. She always gathers her coat and shoes and then is kind of enough to gather mine. : )

My darling is sleeping in Brendan's arms right now and Brendan is staying home with her tomorrow to make sure she is feeling up to par to go back to school. (She sleeps much better at home!)

I promise to never gloat on Facebook again that my children survived the winter without getting sick!
