Every now and then I like to take a quick photo of Cole and Charlotte sleeping. It’s cute, but that is not why I do it. There is just something so perfect and peaceful about it. That seems a bit cliché but I do not know how else to describe it.  I know you all are not that interested in knowing the sleep habits of my children but I like to record them anyway! : )  Amanda or Katrina (I forgot which) used to have a quote on their blog that went something like this. “There never was a child so lovely as a child who is asleep.” Or, perhaps I am making that up and that isn’t the quote, but it sounds good and I like it. He-he.

Cole is a good sleeper and has no problem going to bed at night. Every night after saying prayers and singing songs (they range from “Lay Your Head” from Mary Poppins to “Take me out to the Ballgame”), I lay in bed with him for a few moments and I find that in these still and quiet moments, I learn the most about his day, rather than over conversation during dinner. He tells me about how two girls in the classroom cannot have peanut butter and what they all have to do to make sure the girls do not come in contact with the stuff, I hear about how he was upset that someone knocked his snow fort over, or something funny that one of his friends said.  I really cherish these times and there are nights where I am putting Charlotte to bed and she takes longer to go to sleep and then I find that Cole is sometimes already sleeping before I have a chance come in to say good-night. (Brendan puts him to bed of course-he’s not there by himself.)  Cole will still often crawl into our bed around 4am with about 4 “stuffed lovies” which he leaves at the end of our bed, but only because he has tried to bring said stuffed lovies with him and they have been removed quickly because there is no room!

Charlotte sleeps so well now! She goes to bed still with me rocking her but Cole was like that too at this age.  She doesn’t usually sleep the whole night through- probably around 1am she wakes up and I just bring her into our bed and then she sleeps the rest of the night just fine. I probably could soothe her and leave her in her crib, but what fun is that?! : )  I never seen a happier child than when Charlotte wakes up in the morning. She is all smiles and giggles and love and if she awoke in her crib wouldn’t I miss all that?! There is something just so pure about a babies/toddler’s happiness.

Seriously- when do we start being unhappy about waking up? When in our lives do we lose the whole “I am happy to be awake and start with my day.” I suspect it is when a child begins to dread school as opposed to being at home. But still, think how much better our days would be if we just started the day happy and smiling and loving life?!

You can never be too happy or too positive or too full of love!

Aw, I love our night time rituals too. Cameron and Olivia are now falling asleep together in the same bed. They hold hands and it is just darling.

I agree, the waking up part is the greatest! Mornings are so snuggly and fun in our house.

Here's the quote: "There was never a child so lovely but his mother was glad to get him to sleep." Ralph Waldo Emerson. Doesn't quite have the meaning we are going for, but still quite true ;)

Now more than ever have I understood my Dad's half-joke of asking me not to grow up when I was young.

I like the quote but I think I'll use my version. Ralph wouldn't mind, would he? : )
